Woodshed for firewood storage

Back in December we posted plans for building your own woodshed – and now we’re finally getting around to posting the woodshed we made based on a slightly modified version of those plans. Our woodshed is made mostly of reclaimed pallet wood, with the exception of some pressure treated cedar fence pickets used for the sides and back and two pressure treated 2x4s for the legs.

We modified our own plans by making our woodshed 48″ wide instead of the 36″ in the plans we provided. We decided since we had a lot of logs laying around, 36″ inches wide just wasn’t enough – you don’t have to look too closely at the picture to realize even 48″ didn’t accommodate all of the logs we have to split and stack right now! Other than adding those 12 extra inches, the remainder of the plan stayed the same. We used reclaimed pallet wood boards where we could, but decided that ground contact pressure treated boards were a better idea for the legs to help provide extra longevity. Plus, we just didn’t have enough 48″ long pallet wood boards to create the back, so spent less than $20 on some cedar fence pickets we could cut down and use for the sides and back.

All in all, this woodshed cost us less than $40 and took just a few hours to make – it took longer to cut and stack the wood; and we’re already enjoying having seasoned firewood for our family campfires!
