Kids Fairy House Island

Our daughter absolutely loves fairies and doing crafts – so what better way to amuse her than to have her make a fairy house island! We bought the house itself, the moss for crafts, and a few of the adornments from a local craft store; and then let our daughter’s creativity go to town.

To start, we used a slice of a cedar tree we cut down a few years ago as the island – we chose cedar because it is naturally rot and bug resistant, and it has a great natural aroma. We hot glued the moss to the cedar, and then chose the perfect spot to glue down the fairy house itself. We added some porcelain mushrooms, a plastic tree, some shells we collected from the beach over the years, added a bench and some small woodland creatures.

Creating this entire fairy house island might have taken an hour, and cost less than $30 – and our daughter absolutely loves it. It has found a permanent home on the dresser in her bedroom, and we’ve already talked about how we can add to it over the next few years. We hope this inspires a little bit of your own creativity to make something special and magical with your own kids!
