Quick and easy router table fence upgrades

After having my router table and fence for almost eight years, I finally decided to make a few quick upgrades – and they didn’t take me more than an hour. I can’t believe I didn’t make them sooner! My router table fence is constructed almost identically to our DIY router table fence plans – but the #1 thing it was lacking was the horizontal t-track at the top of the adjustable face plates. I can’t believe I’ve gone almost eight years without adding this. It was so simple, and is the basis for so many more upgrades!

The first additional upgrade that t-track allows is an essential safety feature – a bit guard. Do you really need a bit guard? You could argue no, but I think most woodworkers would argue safety is always important.

Another great upgrade that t-track allowed to add is stops. I made some quick and easy stops using some scrap hardwood I had laying around. Drilling one hole in each piece of hardwood, and adding a t-track bolt and knob to each gives me a quick and simple way to control start and stop points when routing slots like I had to do on my mortising base router jig.

Not pictured, but also yet another option that t-track allowed is featherboards. Having featherboards makes routing a lot easier, as they do the majority of the work of holding the wood down. So you focus on keeping the wood feeding forward.

I’d love to hear your feedback or thoughts on my router fence and it’s upgrades. Leave me a comment below.
