Simple wood step stool

We recently built two of these wood step stools, following our own solid wood step stool plans. The great thing about making two of these at the same time is that the material cost is just incrementally greater. Instead of needing:

  • 1 – 1 x 10 @ 6′
  • 1 – 1 x 3 @ 6
  • 1 – 1 x 8 @ 6

you materials list simply changes to:

  • 1 – 1 x 10 @ 6′
  • 1 – 1 x 3 @ 8
  • 1 – 1 x 8 @ 8

You’re just buying 2 more feet of 1×3 and 1×8.

As our plans point out, the construction of these wood step stools is super simple. I used biscuits and glue to edge join the side panels, pocket screws for attaching the stretchers, and then finish nails for step treads. The entire project, not counting time for the glue to dry, took about two hours. A great weekend project for a warm summer day!
