These wood pumpkins are one of my favorite crafts for Fall decorations. Plus they are another creative way to use up some of the scrap wood laying around my garage shop. These wood pumpkin Fall decorations are quick and easy, and only require a few basic tools and some wood glue.
I made wood pumpkin decorations in a few different sizes to create some variety. They are all made starting with either 2×4 scraps, or 2×3 scraps. I cut the pieces to the desired size and glued them together. Once the wood glue dried I used a v-groove bit on my router to enhance the lines between the pieces, and to add an additional groove going perpendicular to the others. I also drilled a 5/8″ diameter hole, about 1/2″ deep using a Forstner bit. This hole is where the dowels will be glued. You don’t need the hole, but it does provide a more secure connection instead of just using wood glue.
We used some craft paint to paint the pumpkins a few different colors and then tied some raffia around them the dowels. All in all, these took less than an hour of working time from start to finish. Given all of the materials were already sitting taking up space in my shop, I think they are all great addition to our holiday decor.
