Reclaimed wooden heart rose holder

Here is another one of our small projects and crafts – a wooden heart that holds an iron rose, made from reclaimed oak barn wood. The heart is almost 2″ thick, and about 4″ tall. The wooden heart needed to be heavy since it was going to be used as a stand for an iron rose. The iron rose itself was pretty heavy, with most of the weight being at the top.

This was a quick little project, and makes for a great gift. Making it didn’t take me too long, maybe a couple hours in total (not including time for the finish to dry). I first cut the rough shape on the bandsaw then used a 2″ tall flush trim bit on the router table to follow a template I had made to get it done to the right shape. After the shape was cut, I drilled out an 1/4″ diameter hole for the rose to sit in. I followed all of that up with some sanding, progressing through 120, 180, 240, and 320 grit sandpaper. Then finished it with a clear matte polycrylic.
