This smaller version of a sofa side table has a 14″ diameter round top made from reclaimed pallet wood, finished with a light stain and then hand waxed. To build the pallet wood side table top, I planed the pallet wood pieces to the same thickness and then edged them to ensure they were squared. I used a mortise mill to cut slots for loose tenons, then glued the pallet wood pieces together using clamps but ensuring not to over tighten.
The pedestal base is a simpler and smaller version of the base we built for our reclaimed red oak side table. It is made from a 4×4 post for the main center post, 2x4s for the legs and top supports, and some extra molding we had laying around in the shop. These 2x4s for the legs and top supports were edged and planed to remove the rounded corners and to ensure the stock was square on all four sides. To beef up the legs and supports I face glued the 2x4s together, and then cut them down to size, adding the single angle cut. Of course, we finished the base with white chalk paint, then distressed and waxed it.
What a wonderful and unique little pallet wood side table for less than $10 in materials and a few days worth of work.
