Kitchen cabinet refresh – a coat of paint

Nothing brightens up a kitchen as simply as a kitchen cabinet refresh of painting them white. We’ve had remodeling our kitchen on our wishlist since the day we moved in, but it’s not even close to the top priority yet. So in the meantime, we’ve been working on small enhancements to the kitchen that don’t require too much upfront investment. We started a few months ago be moving our island over, adding some beadboard, and giving it a fresh coat of paint.

Well, my wonderful wife decided to tackle painting the cabinets using the same Valspar white cabinet enamel paint we used on the island. She painted them in her “spare” time, and it only took a few weeks to go from the “before” (shown below) to the “after” – and what a difference the paint makes. It really does brighten up the entire kitchen.

If you look at the two pictures closely, you might also notice we replaced the range hood with a stainless steel model with LED lights. The next project in the kitchen will definitely be replacing our outdated track lighting fixture with some pendant lights over the island. We’re also debating extending the cabinets all the way to the ceiling. Stay tuned for more updates in hopefully the not-too-distant future.
