Kids Wind Chime Craft

Looking for a fun crafting project to do with your kids?  How about a kids wind chime?  This is a great project for kids from about 4 years old through 8 or 9.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

This craft is really simple, but one that should keep your kids occupied for an hour or so on a rainy day.   Start by having your kids color both sides of 6 craft or popsicle sticks.  Let them go wild and be as creative as they can be (our 3 year old chose to color each stick a solid color, but you can do multi-colors).

Once you have all of the sticks colored, use hot glue or Elmers glue to make two triangles, and then glue the triangles together.  Set this aside to let the glue dry.

While you are waiting for the glue to dry, have your kids starts threading beads onto 18″ lengths of beading wire.  You’ll want to leave about 4″ of wire at the top of each strand to allow you to wrap it around the craft sticks and tie it to itself.

As your kids are stringing the beads, intermix some of the metal washers.  Try to align the washers on each strand, as they are what will make the chime sound when the kids wind chime craft is complete.   You don’t need a whole lot (and definitely not too many) but at least want one on the bottom of each string.

You’ll want between four and six total strings of beads.  Once they are all complete, wrap them around the craft sticks at different intersection points.  After all of your bead strings are attached, finish up by adding another 24″ wire to the top with the two ends connected on opposing points of the chime.  This is what you’ll use to hang this kids whine chime craft, so you’ll also want to make certain that the chime is balanced.  If you are having trouble balancing it you can always add a second hanging string that crosses the first string.

We hope you enjoyed this kids wind chime craft. Don’t forget to check out our other crafts that are fun for kids, and the rest of our crafts.
