Small reclaimed barn wood bench

We decided we needed a small bench in our foyer / entry way for the kids to sit on while they put on their shoes. So I decided to whip together a small reclaimed barn wood bench from some old pine barn wood we reclaimed from a barn right outside of Charlotte.

This really is a simple bench – but it provides tons of character and functionality in a little space. The design is basic, with a slight decrease in width from the bottom of the legs to the top (about 2.5 degrees) and a 5 degree slant inwards. This dual slant just provides a little visual appeal to keep this reclaimed barn wood bench from being too “square”.

We thought about staining (well, actually waxing) this piece to be a weathered gray; but when we did a test on a scrap piece of wood we just didn’t like the result. So we’re leaving it to it’s natural beauty, with just a coat or two of Valspar Sealing Wax. We know this wax is meant for on top of chalk paint, but we find it does a great job of creating a soft protective finish on barn wood as well.
