Pottery Barn Inspired Queen Farmhouse Headboard

We built this queen farmhouse headboard by following our DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Queen Headboard plans.  The entire build took an afternoon, and the materials cost under $100 (not including paint).  Of course we used chalk paint for the finished, which we distressed, and then waxed with Americana Decor clear creme wax for a nice soft finish.

One change we made to the instructions was instead of using a 2×4 for the legs, I ripped a 2×6 down to 3 1/2″ wide in order to eliminate the rounded corners.  It’s a little extra work, and creates a little waste in the 2″ which are ripped off the 2×6. However I typically rip down 2x6s in this manner to create a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 piece for use in other projects, and then use the edge ripped off of the other side as a stirring sticks for paint and stain.
