Outdoor Farmhouse Dining Table – Restoration Hardware Inspired.

This massive, Viking-esque, 4′ x 12′ outdoor farmhouse dining table was inspired by designs from Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn. It’s constructed entirely from rough sawn cedar, and is built to last for many years if it receives just a little bit of care.

The base is made entirely from 4×4 beams, with mortise and tenon joinery and no exposed mechanical fasteners (a.k.a. screws or nails). The top is constructed of five 2x8x10s as the main runners, with 2×12 breadboard ends. We used 2x4s as the supports under the top to allow for the hidden troughs. The troughs are sized to perfectly hold a standard size flower pot from Lowe’s or Home Depot.  Learn more about how this outdoor farmhouse dining table is built by reading our DIY post.

Caring for this table is simple, and only requires a light scouring with a Scotchbrite pad to remove the surface dirt and then a light oiling with Teak oil. Over the years, with proper care, this table will start to take on a uniform darker brown look. Since it is made of cedar, it is naturally bug and rot resistant.
