As my son has grown from a pre-teen into a full blown teenager, the full-height loft with a desk and shelves underneath was no longer working. He asked if we could lower his bed, but we still wanted to save some floor space. So I designed and built this mid-loft bed, which fits perfectly over his IKEA dresser.
The loft frame fits a full or double mattress, with about a 1″ lip on both sides and at the foot of the bed. The entire bed was built using construction lumber, most of which I salvaged from his loft. I stained the legs a dark brown, and used peel-and-stick vinyl tiles around the main part of the bed to give it a more finished look.
You can find the plans for this mid-loft teen bed, along with lots of other plans in the Free Project Plans and DIY section of our site.
