Distressed Mason Jar and Pallet Wood Planter Box

Here’s a great piece of home decor that adds a little bit of rustic country flair to any home, and best of all it can be done for almost no cost if you have a few basic tools and some paint. The only thing you may need to buy are the mason jars, unless you are like us and have a few dozen around the house almost all of the time.

The planter box is simply made from a few pieces of pallet wood which were cut down to size and then lightly sanded to remove any rough edges that could cause splinters. Be careful not to over sand and lose the charm of the reclaimed wood.

The easiest way to ensure the proper sizing of the planter box is to arrange the mason jars, leaving a gap of about 1/2″ in between each and 1/4″ from the edges wood, and the measure and cut your pieces appropriately. Building the planter box is just like building any other box; simply glue and nail the two sides to the two ends and then glue and nail the bottom piece on. I prefer the bottom to be inset inside of the sides so that you can not see the edges of the bottom, but it is perfectly fine to attach the sides on top of the bottom as well.

Once the planter box is assembled you can paint and distress it, and add any additional flair you wish to match your own decor and style.

The mason jars are simply painted, and the tops were wrapped with twine to give a little extra charm. We chose to do an alternating blue and white pattern, and then accentuated the whole piece with some flowers.

We hope you enjoy this piece and as always, please feel free to contact us or connect with us through Facebook (facebook.com/famousartisan) if you would like us to make one for you.
