If you’ve been doing woodworking for at least a few years, like me you’ve probably collected a fair amount of blades for your table saw and miter saw. I finally got around to making a saw blade storage box for myself. I created this one mostly based on our saw blade storage box plans, but made a few minor adjustments along the way.
I happened to have a 1×6 spalted maple board that I had picked up on clearance from the local shop just laying around, so I decided to use it for the fronts. I used scrap 3/4 maple plywood for the sides and top, and a piece of 1/2″ plywood for the back. I had originally planned to use small screw-in knobs for the pulls, but pivoted along the way to simply using a plug cutter to make the pulls from extra spalted maple. They are simple, but they work.
The shelves themselves are 1/8″ hardboard, with a 5/8″ dowel glued and screwed from underneath to hold the blades in place. I did sand the dowels a very small bit to make it easier to get the blades on and off, particularly in the summer months where those wooden dowels may expand a bit here in the humidity of NC.

I was also going to cover the sides of the plywood top with maple edge banding, but decided that since it was going to sit on a shelf where I couldn’t see the sides that it wasn’t really that important. I did spend the time to put 4 coats of tung oil on it though. It’s not a showpiece by any means, but I do want it to last for as long as possible.
This saw blade storage box is already proving it’s worth to me. No longer am I unscrewing the knob on the side of my table saw and then removing five or six blades just to get to the one I want that is buried in the back. Instead, I just slide out the drawer and select the saw blade I want and go on my way. This is great for storing the twelve different saw blades I do have though if I was going to build it again, I’d probably incorporate a bottom drawer just for my dado blade stack. Since I didn’t have that foresight before I built this those dado blades will just sit in their own storage box on top of this saw blade storage box.
If you have built a saw blade storage box for yourself I’d love for you to share some pictures and notes through the Share Your Build link.
