Our second weekend of social distancing means another weekend project. This time, two raised garden planter boxes. It was so beautiful out this weekend here in Charlotte, despite it being yellow from all of the pollen, we decided to finally get around to starting that garden we’ve always talked about. So the first step was building the raised planter boxes.

These raised garden planter boxes are super simple to make, are fairly inexpensive, and accommodate a decent amount of plants. Making two of these planter boxes requires twelve 2x6x8s and one 2x4x8, plus exterior wood screws (we used 3″ deck screws). So the total cost for the boxes was less than $100.

Each of these boxes are 4 feet wide by 8 feet long. We find this is a decent width to allow us to access all of the plants from one side or the other. Plus, it means each box only requires cutting two of the 2x6s in half, and then cutting the four corner braces from the 2×4. So 4 x 8 also winds up being a super easy build.

Next weekend, a liner, garden soil, and plants! Unless we find time to do it this week that is…
